Shopping is the prime hobby and actually a passion for me. If I am sad, I want to shop. Or if I am very happy, I want to shop. If I need to just hang out with my friends, I would go to a shopping mall. So, you can say, in a way, shopping is a very important and integral part of my lifestyle.

I need to go for shopping at least once in a week to keep myself happy and active. If for some reason I am not able to go for shopping on weekend, I feel deprived of satisfaction. For this reason, as a routine, I shop on weekends.

Apart from this, with my growing age, this habbit of shopping is also becoming more important for me for the following reasons:

1. Necessity: Having started to take up responsibilities, I shop for my household like grocery and related stuff.

2. Time Pass: When I am alone and want to spend some time well, shopping is the best way.

3. Benefits of being aware: Regular shopping creates awareness of quality and even price of the products. Now I am sure that I cannot be cheated in terms of quality as I know the best brands which are well known and last longer. Also, having seen so many shops, I always know about the best deals in prices. This helps me get the best things in best prices.

4. Helping friends: My awareness of products is helpful to my friends who are very buzy and dont have time for shopping and still want to do some necessity shopping at times. They take my opinion (and at times I shop on their behalf) and this gives me satisfaction that I have helped them.

5. Hangout: Its indeed a leisure hangout with so many fascinating and beautiful shopping malls nowadays. I believe, modern day consumer loves shopping more because of this shopping mall culture.

6. Keeping Connected: Shopping altogether gives me a feeling of keeping connected with the world.

Shopping is my life. I love shopping as it gives me lot of pleasure. Even if I don't actually spend money by buying things, window shopping is still a wonderful thing to do. In fact I can say that I work so that I can earn well and satisfy my desire for shopping

I can for anything starting from household items to beauty products to gifts for my friends and even electronics. But I particularly like buying clothes, matching footwear and accessories like purse and immitation jewelry.

I am working with an advertising agency so particularly for people like me, this trend of shopping has given us work and keeps generating money for us. With more and more consumers, and good competition, advertising agency also faces lots of good scopes and opportunities. So,we are actually very excited with this growing shopping trend

Nowadays, the concept of shopping has changed a lot. With the grand shops and airconditioned showrooms even for buying vegetables, no one would ming shopping and everyone likes it. Moreover, the products are becoming more attractive to fetch more consumers. Also, they give such well trained customer service that the consumer feels attended to and is able to trust the services he gets. And with increase in competition, we get so many schemes that we as consumers benefit a lot from this trend.

For teenagers, Shoppping could be just a way of spending time with their friends and moving around in groups.

To make matters great, internet shopping is possible now wherein you dont have to waste time or move out of your house. You can shop with a few clicks on your mouse. For example I love to shop on Sifymall and that becomes a very significant reason for me to continue being a part of Ammas

Shopping makes my mind more creative and innovative by generating new ideas and it helps me spend my free time well.

AAh,shopping!..well, this is what every gal feels about it : )

I am from the city of malls and multiplexes and luv to shop. For me, shopping is a passion, a pastime, and a necessity sometimes too..So, all three of these are applicable in my case..lets see how:

1. Shopping is a passion. When I go to a mall, I feel great..I feel active..I generally go to malls with my friends, so that becomes an interesting affair too. Preparing a list, asking the friend to join with her list, and finally meeting in the mall. window shopping also satisfies my passion. I luv to buy things for my loved ones, friends, siblings, etc...I like to gift them things of my choice and also get to know their choice by joining them for shopping. A weekend shopping day relieves the workstress of whole week..Moreover, shopping in these big malls is a clean experience and I can wear the best of my dresses and makeup too while going for shopping..so its an like an entertainment.

2. Pastime..Yes,it is a pastime too. When I dont have any other plans for the weekend, I go out shopping with friends just to spend good time outside. These malls have good eateries too..so no worry of cooking, etc. for the holiday, once we get there. When I have nothing to do, I go to my favorite mall here which has a cute name "Gallops"...After spending 3-4 hours at a mall, I feel as if I have utilized my day very well.

3. Necessity. Well, of course shopping is a necessity too. Nobody really has time to do all the shopping for you, so you do have to go out..With these big malls and shopping complexes, I can find all things at one place and so its easier for me to handle my necessity items. All i need to do is, prepare a list for the whole week, call a friend for company with her list too, and plan 2-3 hours at a mall. I generally like to store the necessity items well in advance for the whole upcoming week.

Shopping!!..the sweetest job to do..a person can get tired with office, with household chores, but not at all with shopping : P

Its a costly affair for guys...so, they would not find it as interesting!

Hi, I am a certified shopper and I always succumb to the allure of shopping. It is my passion, pastime, necessity and much much more. It is so much more than shopping for the necessity. I do enjoy the thrill of the chase for goods, triumph of buying and enjoying the catch!

It is the passion to own things of owner's pride and neighbour's envy! The pastime of shopping keeps me mentally healthy as I do socialise and find friends while even window shopping. It is a necessity as I have to provide the needs of my near and dear ones at home.

I shop even for the following reasons: 1. Competition: I need to brag about my catch to my friends and the privilege of knowledge of what exists well ahead of others.

2. Prestige: What can beat my ownership of prestigeous designer goods and my capacity to comb and choose the cheapest from the clearance sale racks? 3. Need to help others: I shop not only for me but for my other family members who appreciate every thing I choose thus saving their precious time. I do pitch in a helping hand to my friends who need company while shopping and in the process, I end up buying lots and lots.

4. To update on trends and fashion: I always shop to follow trend and keep up fashion.

5. Fun and hobby: It is all the more fun to browse around shops and it almost a hobby to visit malls which are aplenty in my place. The eateries there provide a lot of variety and I end up buying. items/groceries there to try the item I tasted in the malls.

6. Exercise: At times, shopping malls are deserted in the midweek and afternoons. I catch up with my walking exercise and climbing upstairs and down to activate my calf muscles in the empty mall, with no dogs to chase me or no robbers to flick my chains or purses. There I end up buying footwear to my exhausted legs and music CDs from shops which relax my mind while shopping.

Hence it is all of the above that excite me about shopping. The only deterrent is money or credit card that is put to use at the end of each mall visit/shopping!

Hello,

For both the sexes shopping means different.

For men : Shopping is goal oriented. They need something they will go and buy do it. They are more focus on what they want.

For women : Shopping is threauptic. She can make shopping experience as a socializing event. It is a platform to meet people and make friends with them. women are bargain hunters nothing please them more saving couple of ruppees here and there. Of course they spend that money in somewhere else.

Women are also nurtures & networkers. They shop for there family that includes gifts, cards ,medicines ,toys ,food , etc.

Women need planning for there shopping. In order to control there shopping impulses. Most of us buy things in impulse and later we never ever use them. It is like binge eating.

Some turn shopping to suppress emotions. Those are shop alcholics. Most of them deny or defend there spending habits. If you have any core issues try to get help shopping never soothes your emotions.

Our economy trends are changing so are the shopping habits. We can do online shopping. Due to add children and adults are equally tempted to buy things. They are quickly becoming outdated from jewelery ,electronics, clothing etc name few.

Due to dual incomes we are spending a lot. Sometimes we are comparing with others. We are overindulge ourselves.

I suggest take a look at our spending habits still many people are struggling to meet there ends meet.

How much we need? Do we need those luxury items.

We have grown up without tv,dvd, computer etc. But we had good human relation. Sometimes I feel the electronic trend losing the humanity.

When we are kids we used to bags. Now we are using plastic bags. Now we are trying to educate the people to minimise the plastic bags in order to save the environment.

I think it is a cirlce. Past generation habits are very simple, economic and healthy.

Some may disagree it creating lot of economic growth to the country. We earn money ,We spend money. Money circulates money.

Due to inflation our economy is falling.

We have to remember that money never brings happiness neither do our spending habits.

By giving something which we have may raise the humanity to new levels.

Hello, Indians have seen a sharp rise in shoppers in shopping malls these days. But all those who hang out are not really shopping there. For them, it is hanging out with friends for fun and do some window shopping to pass time. Most people think twice before they spend their hard earned money.

Shopping for me is a necessity and a pasttime, though not always.

1. Necessity: I do shopping only when I think it is a necessity. I do shopping periodically and during festive occasions only. I do impulse buys too occasionally, If I feel the product is good for the money I would spend.

2.Past time: Shopping is a past time also for me, but not always. I do window shopping and I would go around to see what the shops has to offer.

3. Comparing: I do visit a few shops and browse before buying to see that the products I buy are worth the money spend. I would like to spend the lest for the best like others.

4.To know about products: Often when we talk with friends, many products come to discussion. I am sure that with out knowing the products out there you cannot share your thoughts on products.

5. To write reviews: I have the hobby of writing reviews too . This way I could tell my personal views on products after using a product. It is way for me to earn online and to pass my knowledge to others. So I shop for good branded products like electronics.

6.To help economy: I know some people may think it is a jargon. But shopping helps economy of the country running. If consumer spending goes down, economy of the country too will be hit.

Best wishes.

Today shopping for me is the best opportunity getting around. I got different type specialized and categorised according to my need,Differnt options available,Differnt competitor around,Different price range and offer For the products,it’s makes my shopping more exciting and more enjoyable and more satisfying of having the most suited product around my need comparatively. Now a days the producer are creating buyer of their product, they make you really feel and see the product before you really can have it through different mall or shop. They search for the desire to come out and take the product. They make you really feel that you really need the product in your life syle giving live example of how when you really need it and why you have it. The disposable income now create a larger buyer in india the provide the opportunity to dispose the disposable income through various way.The mall are rally providing way for the producer and for the consumer to buy and sell in a easy and reliable manner. Now time pass in a mall, make you desire to have the product with lots of good offer and lucarative showcashing of the product, make you out of third and fourth thought as first and second thought of having the product they already created there and some time it’s too late to realise the importance of the product by giving it a good thought. So all this lucrative and different option for me, makes me shop for the time being.

The main reasons behind this addiction are: personal, familial and social. Personal reasons stem from low self-esteem, emotional dissatisfaction, poor self image, inferiority complex and insecurity in relationships.

Following are the other reasons why one shop :

1. A Shopping Cart On Wheels Is Not A Sign of Weakness

2. Daily Adventures Into The Unknown

3. Just Enough is OK

4. Free Parsley

5. Vendors Are Intuitive

6. Don’t Touch: Non Toccare

7. It’s All About Me

8. Less Mystery

9. Everything Out in The Open

Cassandra is in a good place in her life; she’s just scored a new and more lucrative job, she’s down to her goal weight and with graduate school behind her, she has a lot more time on her hands. When asked how she plans to celebrate the newest phase in her life, she answers succinctly, “Shopping.”

With the new influences in her life, Cassandra is likely to find good company when hitting the stores. According to the Cotton Incorporated Lifestyle Monitor™, nearly 75% of women say that their enjoyment of shopping has remained the same or increased over the past three years. Within this group, nearly one in three stated that their enjoyment increased “a little” to “a lot more” based on changes in their financial situation, their appreciation for current fashions, and changes in size or other garment fit issues.

“Everyone has different reasons for apparel shopping and it’s very interesting to see how life situations can influence how much, or how little, a woman enjoys the process,” says Melissa Bastos, Manager of Market Research for Cotton Incorporated. “And the reasons aren’t always what you might expect.”

For instance, Bastos explains, a change in income does not always mean a woman has more money. A decrease in disposable income can also spur a spree. “There are certainly women who love shopping more when they are in a tighter financial situation, since it forces them to be savvier consumers,” Bastos concedes.

Carol Davies, a partner with Fletcher Knight, a marketing and brand innovation consultancy, agrees. “We know that there are women who are game shoppers and they are looking for the bottom line best bargain,” she details. “When they have less money at hand, the sense of accomplishment in getting the best deal is greater. Making more with less is rewarding; a bottomless bowl of candy may not taste as sweet as a few savored pieces.

”But perhaps knowing you can always have a wee bit more does make the shopping process a little sweeter, maintains Alle Fister, Principal of Bollare, a fashion and lifestyle public relations company based on the West Coast.

“With higher disposable income comes more flexibility in purchasing, and we all definitely enjoy flexibility and options!

”As with a change in income, a change in fit and style as a shopping rationale is not always due to weight loss. Rather, it’s about achieving the right level of health from a weight perspective, whether that means a weight loss or weight gain reflecting these positive feelings towards shopping.

There’s an added bonus, too, observes Davies. “If your body has changed, you really do need to go out and buy new clothing. It’s a license to shop and it removes any guilt you might have about spending money.”

Putting down some cash for something you really like is also gratifying and the current variety of fashions certainly seems to resonate with women. For female respondents who told the Monitor that they enjoyed shopping “a little bit more” in the past three years, new style choices were the number one motivator (26%). Respondents who enjoyed the process “a lot more,” cited this variety as the second most compelling factor (20%). There are certainly direct and indirect influences at play here, says Bastos. “Whether women admit it or not, celebrities and the media do have an influence on how many women feel about certain fashions.

”Indeed, the messages are everywhere. “With greater attention to shopping, style and fashion, there has been a rise in ‘style experts’ appearing in magazines and on television giving consumers an almost inside track on fashion,” Fister explains. “When people are given the information and the tools about how to look and feel better through their wardrobe, they definitely enjoy shopping more!” Fister should know; she has appeared as a notable fashion resource on countless network and broadcast shows, from FOX and ABC to VH1 and MTV.

The female consumer is also more educated about what she is buying. For example, the average woman is fairly knowledge of easy-care attributes in cotton clothing: 77% know that cotton is an easy care fabric, that it can have stretch (74%), that it is available with wrinkle-resistance (68%) and that it can be stain resistant (55%).

Another factor not mentioned directly by female respondents are the multiple channels for purchase, which have likely fueled an increased interest and enjoyment in apparel shopping. “There are more options for women to shop today,” Fister continues. “Whether it is shopping in a mall with a girlfriend, relaxing in a personal shopper’s office or shopping online from home or the office, women definitely have access to the items that they want!”

Also not mentioned directly by respondents but just as important is finding the right venue with the right personal touch, according to Tess Enright, a co-owner of the upscale boutiques Tess and Carlos in Boston, who lives this credo firsthand. “It’s about creating a personal relationship that makes people want to come back in and trust you as a resource for great clothing,” she tells. “It’s about creating a caring and comfortable environment.”

Finding those factors of care and comfort just might underscore any reason why women enjoy shopping for apparel, from finding a good fit to discovering a great fashion to keeping tabs on one’s financial compass. It just might be the reason you hear someone say, “Let’s go shopping!”

Shopping is entertainment. Most people cannot go to the mall and just look. And let’s face it, most Americans are just scrapping to get by. This is stressful

Shopping has become a part of our everyday life, ofcourse some people love it and some do not. We have become witnesses of the growth of big stores and shopping centres. All of them are beautifly decorated and are opened for the whole day and weekends.

This enormus place has plenty advantages and disadventeges. It is designed is such a way that the shoppers have to go a certain route from the entrance to the cash point near exit. The customer is guided past all the most popular production display and therby encouraged to buy items he would have forgotten to buy. You don`t have carry things but you just take a trolley.

t is a very convenient way of shopping beckause you can choose the product you want from a large range and you have the possiblity to get to know to new products. You are served in a very polite way and no one makes you hurry beckause other shoppers are waiting behind you. The variety of goods is to great that you are given time to decided what to choose. Supermarkets can be called "the all in one shop" beckause they offer products of every kind. There are departments specializing in: food for people and pets, clothes, tools, books and magazines, electronic equipment, souvenirs and many other. It is not only high - quality and wiole assortment which attracts people but also its lighting of high intensity and its clean and hygienic atmosphere with, as I mentioned before, the possiblity to do all your.

Shopping in one store. Add to this an adjacent car park where you can wheel your trolley to your car, load your stuff in to your car boot and leave the bascet or trolley nearby to be collected by the store attendant. In this way shopping becomes a pleasure instead of a chore. Supermarkets are convenient beckause they are self - service and apart from goods we can find there a restaurant,a cafe, and a special place for kids to play while their mother are shopping.

There i also a possiblity to pay by cheque or a credit card and vouchers avcalable If something goes wrong with your products, you simply show your recipt and you are given a new one or your money back. Not to forget about sales and special offers such as "buy one get one free" or "two for the pirce of one" are always found there. One the other hand shopping in supermarkets can be annoying beckause there is a big choice which can cause confusion.

People often buy unnecessary things beckause they seeing to have a good price and you buy things that tou did not plan to buy earlier. This is called impulse buing. Attractive packing and displays versuade people to buy things they do not actually need. For many of us the major disadvantage of shopping in supermarkets id that it is time consuming and it takes a while to getthere and back. Big stores are also quite dangerous for all small shops owned by private people. And those shops may be the only source of living of then.

To conclude I would like to express my opinion which rather possitive. I think that supermarkets are great creatures and the more of them the better. It is a good way to spend your free time and relax shopping.

Every work has a purpose. Hence shopping also might have. All work has value. Hence shopping also might have. You are the best person to evaluate the value of your work. The value of your work depends on whether or not your personal needs are being met. Hence your validation is for you as per your state of mind and the value of the money with you - this differ to persons according to their income, revenues and earning power, other economic back ground - in which he or she may likely to allocate money for shopping.

But in the current scenario - every one has a serious though before thinking and trying to purchase a thing - right from daily needs items to other costly and luxury items. The money value is decreasing day by day.

The mental satisfaction one feels in mind after a shopping or purchasing a valuable thing or item/even clothes and cosmetics etc. is to be considered. This is the ultimate positive benefit that we get with a shopping.

Noa person has to think twice or thrice before thinking about a shopping. Luxurious items should be with hold, control the day to day materials requirement with its controled utility, keep in mind to not to spare as waste.

Shopping for some can be a passion, pastime and necessity.

Shopping in malls especially in cities/metros has become a necessity and convenience as you get all the things under one roof. Its just that you need to do self service, check and pick up the things you need and wait for a long time in the queue to get billed and take your purchases home,. this is the only hassle one has to undergo in shoping malls, the waiting time to be billed is sometimes irritating as you tend to stand for a long time without any movement. it becomes even more difficult when you have kids and managing them while shopping is truly difficult. shopping in malls also makes you aware of so many products / brands that are in the market and available to purchase. one sometimes tend to make friends too in malls if you shop at the same mall for more than 3-4 times and see the same faces shopping there.

for some shopping in malls is fun and they would like to kill their time or just do some window shopping to be aware of what is available under the same category of items.

Also when both husband and wife are working shopping in malls over the weekend to stock things for the week(s) helps them in planning and managing.

Cost wise too with so many malls coming up we get a better deal in prices and end up saving some money.

Well, I would say Shopping is definitely a necessity first and then comes pastime and passion.

Earlier, excessive shopping was more common among women, especially housewives. But recently it has increased among teenagers and adolescents. This is an age where physical appearance and being accepted by peers and the opposite sex are the most important components of self-image. With increased availability of brands, shopping addiction is mounting among young adults. In cities about 25-30 per cent young adults may be suffering from it. It is seen in both the sexes, but is more prevalent among boys.

The broad signs of shopping addiction in youngsters are: being very brand conscious, always comparing purchases with what peers have, feeling low or temperamental in the absence of a desired brand, forcing parents to spend beyond their means, buying more out of compulsion than requirement or necessity, demanding something constantly and loosing interest on the item after buying.

The main reasons behind this addiction are: personal, familial and social. Personal reasons stem from low self-esteem, emotional dissatisfaction, poor self image, inferiority complex and insecurity in relationships.

Familial reasons arise from conflicts in family, poor disciplinary methods or emotional neglect by parents. Social causes include peer pressure, image consciousness and a desire to win attention. It is very important to target deep-rooted insecurities in a child which he may be trying to satisfy by being associated with brands and deriving a sense of control out of excessive shopping. Help children develop self confidence and have a strong self esteem to solve shopping addiction.

In most of the cases, excessive shopping is the result of indiscriminate amount of pocket money being given to very young children by their parents. They have to be more cautious about the amount of money and liberty they give their wards. If they are not careful about inculcating the value of money, then children usually turn aggressive about their demands. Value of money becomes secondary to them and they blindly go after any object that catches their fancy . Initially it is just smaller, cheap objects but later, cost ceases to be a factor. If they like it, they want to have it, no matter what.

Another cause of this could be rapidly growing income levels of young adults. Thanks to the booming corporate sector. Often when they earn in lakhs right after college, they do not know how to manage their money and end up spending it all on shopping sprees.

Parents should monitor the resources of their children when they are young. They should also make them realise the importance of saving money, so that once they become financially independent, they can manage their income intelligently. It is crucial that parents guide them and make them realise their future needs and goals. More importantly, they have to inculcate the value of money and the hardships of earning from pre-adolescence onwards.

Today, many social behaviours are taking the form of an addiction-“shopping addiction” is one such growing challenge. These days, the urban class has a lot of disposable income. Add to this the mushrooming of malls in big cities. These factors have completely erased considerations of affordability and accessibility and have lead to this addiction. I feel shopping addiction among youngsters is generally a result of faulty or extravagant parenting. Faulty parenting is when parents do not devote enough time to their children and are unable to forge an emotional bond with them. In such a scenario, if a child has some problem he or she is unable to communicate and seek guidance from his or her parents.

The other case is that of extravagant parenting. Here, parents shower ridiculous amount of money on their children. They pamper them to such an extend that they are unable to say “no” to their demands irrespective of the nature of these demands. Shopping addiction can also be a tension relieving mechanism and can be caused by underlying worries.

These can range from stress-related to studies, job pressure, broken relationship and other social , personal and familial problems. Shopping then becomes a means to release tension, as they can connect with the objects they buy. Parents can help a lot in curbing or avoiding such situations. They have to ensure that there is no communication gap in the family. Also, they have to be role models themselves if they have to teach their children the value of money and the objects they buy.

Are clothes and shoes at the malls and new retail stores in India much more expensive than in the United States? It seems that way, to me at least. For instance, during my last visit to Chennai, I bought a pair of Reebok sneakers having left my original pair back home in the US. This darn pair cost me Rs $125 (Rs 5,000) at the Reebok store in India, whereas the exact same pair cost me just $80 in the US. Around this time, a relative gifted me a shirt from ColorPlus. This shirt cost Rs $63 (Rs 2,500) versus $40 (if that) for an identical shirt in the US. I’ve experienced this “sticker shock” every time I’ve visited a store in India over the last two years.

Hi.,

Shopping is ofcourse almost liked by everyone especially by girls...i do shopping for necessity as i am a working women & fully occupied with my kid...

but shoppign with friends is for good time pass..& very nice to enjoy.Window shoppign is best to do with friends but not with family members...they may feel irritated due to just looking & coming back...

Now the technology has improved a lot & we ahve online shopping...nowadays people got used to this online shopping & use it very much.However., the craze to roam in big shoppign malls & to ahve a look at all..the thigns..is really a wondeful experience..we have to teach our children also the value of shopping..many parents are not takign their children for shopping...this si wrong..they have to take them out..then only they know how to behave in such places & what to get at what time...

The mainreason for shopping is increase of income to software engineers., they earn a lot & try to spend a lot..they need a break from their regular 5 days work..so just freek out for weekend shopping..& finish lunch & dinner outside this has become a fashion now...

So., shoppign has improved alot...retailers are announcing various discounts., sale., offers etc..this attractive words are making people to go for it even though they dont have an idea to go for shopping.

Also big shopping malls in centre fo city is attracting them to just go inside & have a look,

Regular shopping can keep us aware of market trends.

So., now the trend has become as shopping for time pass & passion even though the real need is at only very few basis.

Shopping is a very important part of an individual's life, be it a woman or a man. The retail therapy you have mentioned is the latest among the various psychologically relaxing processes. For me shopping is a passionate past time. Considering the present inflation, people from around the world are thinking twice before buying the exquisite item that looks lovely on the shelf but is like a brick to the pocket! Therefore another modification evolved by the name of window shopping. My younger sisters spend hours at the mall with their friends & come back empty handed declaring about the fun they had while they window shopped. It is just the diversion of mind that eventually makes it soothing for the mind. When an individual sees things he/she likes or that are pleasing to the eye it automatically diverts the mind from other pressing matters at home or work. This is why it is declared as retail therapy. Some people consider buying shoes as their retail therapy, while some people especially young girls feel happy by when they buy new jewelery or a dress they liked. It in fact varies from person to person. I always love to go shopping but I like to study the new trends going on that time. You can learn a lot about the traditions & the ever changing customs of the society. This is my retail therapy.

I think I have negotiated that perfect balance between staying in vogue and out of debt when it comes to shopping. With my ability to sniff out a one-of-a-kind buy or a truly unbelievable discount, I've assembled a unique-yet-wearable wardrobe. As they say "A smart shopper is one who has a closet full of clothes they love to wear."

I believe the key to smart shopping is about strategy and research, rather than being swayed by a sale. As a sensible decision-maker, you should know how to maximize your $$, mix and match your wardrobe, and maintain a chic personal style that doesn't look like you've stepped out of a cookie-cutter catalog.

"Smart shopping starts at home," says Andre. "Make an appointment with your closet. See what's missing, get rid of things, and make a list." If you can get it on sale, that's just a bonus.

Dear Anonymous,

Shopping at malls is a necessity and also a pastime for me and my family.

I shop for my necessities in malls for reasons as under:-

1.Greater discounts

2.Value for price.

3.More choice to choose from

4.International brands at Indian price.

5.Excellant price comparision.

For passing time malls are the best.we have good food courts at the malls. Also for kids there will be a range of playing venue's.

For many, shopping changed from chore to leisure pursuit long ago. You will be hard pushed to find an Indian consumer who hasn't, at least once, gone out street with the intention of finding something they want to buy, rather than buying something they need. This behavior contrasts not only with that of consumers in developing countries, but also with the Europe and US of just 60 years ago.

The folly of rampant consumerism as resources grow scarcer is lost on no one, least of all the marketing community. Still, desperate to maximise profits, manufacturers and marketing men are targeting very young children, buying their loyalty almost from birth, and infantilising adults, to deter them from making considered decisions about what they buy. This way, adults and children will be attracted to the same product, and buy it for most of their lives, trapped in a Peter Pan cycle of consumption, constructed by branding supremos.

Since basic human needs – food, shelter, clothing – have long since been met for most people in the developed world, marketing professionals now bang their heads together to reinvent and recreate goods in order to sell more stuff.

Retail sector has witnessed an immense growth in the last few years. The key factors responsible for the retail boom have been the change in consumer profile and demographics, increase in the number of international brands available in the Indian market, economic implications of the government, increasing urbanization, credit availability, improvement in the infrastructure, increasing investments in technology and real estate building a world class shopping environment for the consumers.Retail is amongst the fastest growing sectors in the country and India ranks 1st, ahead of Russia, in terms of emerging markets potential in retail. The recent history of shopping has been defined by decade-long periods of dynamic change. The ’80s were the decade of the mall, with the explosion of malls being built, resulting in shoppers flocking to these new centers of retail. The ’90s were the decade of the discounters, as Wal-Mart rolled out their discount shopping experience from their base in the heartland to both coasts and many other discounters among them, following suit. The first decade of the new millennium is the decade of luxury, with retailers offering an expanded range of traditional heritage brand luxury to the “classes,” and retailers serving the mass market offering up new, more affordable versions of luxury for the “masses.”

The retail sector has played a phenomenal role throughout the world in increasing productivity of consumer goods and services. It is also the second largest industry in US in terms of numbers of employees and establishments. There is no denying the fact that most of the developed economies are very much relying on their retail sector as a locomotive of growth. The India Retail Industry is the largest among all the industries, accounting for over 10 per cent of the country’s GDP and around 8 per cent of the employment. The Retail Industry in India has come forth as one of the most dynamic and fast paced industries with several players entering the market. But all of them have not yet tasted success because of the heavy initial investments that are required to break even with other companies and compete with them. The India Retail Industry is gradually inching its way towards becoming the next boom industry.

For me Shopping is for necessity & sometimes its also a favourite pass-time .My favourite shopping is during festivals wherein I do bulk shopping .I can spend hours together in a mall looking things around.Though compulsive shopping is a well known fact, I always end up buying unplanned things.Shopping also helps me in knowing new trends . I personally feel men shop only for necessities whereas this is entirely opposite with majority of the women .the variety of choices given by retailers is also one another reason why people end up purchasing something or the other .
