hi nalini You are lucky to see the Lord Shivaji in yr dream . The word Shiva means shub. or the meaning /reason of the dream see below.
Since this has been asked in the “spirituality” section I ll tell u what Acharyas have said about dreams:
This is from the Prasna Marga, a Sanskrit authority in Astrology. This chapter also references the book named “yatra” on dreams and the Valmiki Ramayana..
Astrology is said to be the eyes of the Vedas ( chakshushu)
The following are passages which i felt would be interesting to u, to explain ur dream , and is from Chapter 31 of volume 2 of the book.
“Dreams are of 7 types:
1) Dreshtaha : See in a dream what u ve seen while awake.
2) Sruthaha: See in a dream what u ve heard while awake.
3) Anubhoothaha: See in a dream what u ve smelt, tasted, touched while awake.
4) Prarthithaha: See in a dream what u ve desired while awake.
5) KAlpithaha: See in a dream what u ve day-dreamed about :something which u would have seen and heard and desired earlier and forgotten .
6) Bhavijaha: A dream which involves none of the above..
7) DOshajaha: Dream depending upon diseases involving the body ( for eg . weaknesses)”
So u r dream falls in the category either (2) or (4) or may be even(5)
“Of these only Bhavijaha has any fruit in the future .
And even of these Bhavijaha, if seen within 5 hours of sunset it will bear fruit only after a very long time. Dreams seen at sunrise will bear fruit the same day .
If after the dream , the person does not sleep then the result of the dream will be negligible . If after the dream the person sleeps again, it will surely bear fruit.
Also if u speak about the dream to someone and you hear negative things then the fruits of the dream will be negligible.
Dreams seen during day time, those which are forgotten soon after waking up, dream seen over a very long time, and those seen for a very short while do not bear fruit."
Many things seen in a dream have been described to be good. it s a very big list. But not relevant to ur dream .
Out of which urs could be near to seeing a deva. . . .
" Seeing a Deva brings longevity of life ,health and wealth "
" The night is divided into 4 'Yaama' s
A dream in the first yaama will bear fruit : within 1 year
2nd yaama: within 6 months.
3rd yaama: within 3 months
4th yaama: within a month
And seen at sunrise immediately "
(There are slightly different opinions also, but there is general agreement )
"After seeing a dream if one has the very strong feeling that something bad is going to happen then the dream indicate inauspicious incidents.”
It has not been said anywhere that if one sees a particular thing it would be that particular thing that would be the fruit of the dream. :
For eg. (From same chapter of same book) :
“If one dreams that one has received sandal, shanka, pearl, beetel leaf ,then he will beget children and wealth.
If the dream is drinking ghee kheer from a dirty lotus leaf , in the middle of a lake, then he will beget knowledge which will be respected by the great. . .Therfore what is seen in the dream is not how it will bear fruit. But it will indicate something else. ( For eg. The result of seeing devas etc.. has been mentioned above)”
Therefor seeing Shiva linga does not necessarily indicate Shiva linga as the fruit of the dream.
And as said above seeing , a deva, bring longevity of life ,health and wealth.
But since ur dream does not fall into the category which brings a fruit , “Bhavijaha:” it cannot be said that this would apply to you because of the dream .
Instead it only means that u r very much mentally involved with the “Shiva-linga “ in association with the Shiv Tandav stotra and there fore have seen dream s in the caegory (2) (4) or (5) above.
Also : the meaning of the Sanskrit word “Shiva” means : “ M A N G A L” meaning everything or something that s good ( absolutely).
“Linga” mean a mark.
Over time this meaning of “Shiva Linga ” has been lost , with most people unfamiliar with the original scriptures and the language in which they are written in . Most peopleahve knowledge on such things only what is said by one person , passed on to the other and so forth. . . most of whichhave no basis as far as what is said in the scriptures are concerned ; even though the word "Shiva " comes from the scriptures
Also remember :
“ Aham brahma sharva-s-cha jagataha kaaranam param Aatma-eswara upa dr’shtaa swayam dr’g-visheshanaha” “ I, (Vishnu) am Brahma and Shiva, the source and cause of the universe, the light in every living being , self illuminant , uninvolved , the sole witness, the lord of the worlds and what illuminates the world” Sri-mad Bhagavata (4:7:50)
“Shiva” is the eternal light which illuminates the whole world . Call it by any name .
Hi Nalini, People are getting all sorts of bad dreams but you are dreaming the devine. The Lord himself. There is nothing to worry. Lord Shiva is manglaswaroopa and quickly pleased with his devotees. He bestows his blessings to his devotees very easily. So pray to the Lord to give you peace and prosperity. May God bless you.
hi it is very good for your presence in this world and hope your helphand for indigent people because people who do good for other can only see god presence through their dream so keep doing empathic work for others.
It is not good sign to get dreams about Gods or Snakes, or Temples, gopuram etc. I suggest you consult an astrologer or write to my yahoo mail prksince72 with date time and place of birth I will suggest a solution
dont worry... go for siva temple and have a puja. if it is not possible there.. visit temple when you come to india, if possible visit holy place like srisailam, ramayswaram, or if you have worth visit any jyotirligam.
Shivling or Shiva lingam connects a devotee with the Supreme Being – Lord Shiva. The lingam is the symbol of Lord Shiva and the lingam puja helps the devotee in understanding Lord Shiva. The Lord cannot be described but still we say he is without a beginning and an end and is without a form. It is difficult for a devotee to understand this formless nature. Therefore Lord Shiva appeared in the form of Jyotirlinga before Brahma and Vishnu. The Lingam thus is a symbol of Lord Shiva. Each Lingam puja, step by step, takes the devotee to the eternal truth – that he/she is part of the Supreme Being. Since you have been dreaming shiv linga every time I suggest you to do visit Shiv temple and offer special pujas.
